* A .577 SNIDER MK III CAVALRY CARBINE SIGNED ENFIELD AND DATED 1870, serial number 9428,
with 19 1/2ins. barrel rifled with five grooves the breech-end profusely Enfield ordnance marked and also stamped "STEEL", fitted with correct block and blade front-sight and small carbine pattern ladder rear-sight, the hinged breech-block with latch operated positive bolt locking system, also ordnance marked, the lock bearing the crown "V.R." cypher on the tail and "1870 / ENFIELD" to the centre, walnut half-stocked with regulation brass mounts, the butt with trap for cleaning rods, butt-cap tang "1 / C.M.Y / 50", 1st Cape Mounted Yeomanry gun number 50, the butt stamped with the Enfield roundel and the opposed arrow sale mark, the carbine is complete with its original black leather sight cover. The stock has been lightly refinished with some loss of sharpness and the barrel professionally reblued.
